A Time of Encouragement and Hope
December 18, 2016
The Christmas season can be difficult--especially for those who are coping with the loss of a loved one, with transitions of one kind or another, or with personal challenges or pain.
The "Blue Christmas" event wants to offer encouragement and hope using prayers, readings, and music that acknowledge that God's presence is for those who mourn and struggle.
- Open to all religious affiliations (and those without).
- Light refreshments and fellowship afterwards.
"A Taste of Christmas" - Coffee, Tea, and Treats from around the World
December 3, 2016
The Christmas spirit was in the air on December 3, and it had an international flavor, feel, taste, and sound.
Participants in this events enjoyed presentations on Christmas traditions from seven different parts of the world: several countries on the African continent, Italy; Ireland, England, France, Italy and Germany on the European continant; Mexico and USA on the American continenant.
After each presentations participants enjoyed Christmas music unique to, or originating from, that particular part of the world while indulging in a sample or two of Christmas foods or beverages unique to the particular part of the world.
At least nine lucky winners walked away with early Christmas presents in the form of free door prizes.
While this neighborhood event was free, participants had been invited to bring a non-perishable food item for the Somerton food bank. The response was very generous! Thank you on behalf of hungry neighbors in the Somerton area.
